Obituary

Patricia Bernadette Englehart (née Egan) was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1930, and passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2024, at the age of 94.Pat was born and raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn, by Leo and Elizabeth Egan. She was

predeceased by her siblings Bill (a Jesuit priest), Margaret (a Sister of Mercy), Betty, Leo, her sister-in-law Eileen Egan, and her nephew Liam Egan.


She attended St. Vincent Ferrergrammar school and Bishop McDonnell High School. She graduated from St. Joseph's Collegein Brooklyn and then earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics from Catholic University of America. She shared her love and knowledge of math as a teacher at Lafayette High School in Brooklyn.



She married her husband Al in 1961. At the time of her passing, they had been married for almost 63 years. They moved from Brooklyn to South Hempstead in 1964, where they raised

their five children Anne Clark (Jack), Kathy Barnet (Kevin), Paul (Kathy), Bill, and Tom (Charlotte). They both enjoyed spending time with their beloved grandchildren Sean, Shannon (Cristian), Erin, Ryan, Kayla, Kiera, Christopher, Megan, and Wyatt. She is also survived by hernieces Mary Egan, Moira Egan, and Deirdre Egan-Ryan (Tom Ryan), and her great-nephews Ciaran and Eamonn.



Pat's Catholic faith was a very important part of her life. She and Al were long-time parishioners at St. Agnes Cathedral. For many years, they attended daily morning mass followed by breakfast at the Golden Reef Diner with a group of friends. They were very active in the St. Agnes Senior Club and went on many wonderful trips with their friends from the club. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Rosary Society for many years.


Pat loved spending her time doing gardening, watching birds, reading, taking photographs at home and on their many vacations, and completing the daily puzzles in Newsday. Pat enjoyed good conversation with friends and family, who will all miss her stories that were always told with a smile and a laugh.
