Obituary

Jacqueline "Jacquie" Maidel (née Hammerbeck), 81, of Rockville Centre, New York, passed away on February 4, 2026.

Jacquie was the beloved mother of Mark Terrence, Jason Terrence, Matthew Terrence (deceased), and Caroline Lomot. She was the cherished grandmother of Maryn Terrence, Benjamin Lomot, William Lomot, Rowan Terrence, Grace Lomot and Jackson Terrence.

She is also survived by her brother, Christopher Hammerbeck, and her much-loved daughters- and son-in-law: Sarah Terrence, Shelly Terrence, and Chris Lomot.

Born in Lancashire, England in 1944, Jacquie was the daughter of Olaf and Ivy "Jackie" Hammerbeck. Her early years were marked by her father's service in the Royal Air Force, and she had many fond memories of time spent in the English countryside and Wales. In the 1960s, Jacquie worked as a flight attendant for BOAC, a chapter of her life she always remembered with pride and humor. She later made her home in New York, where she raised her family.

Jacquie was a driven and accomplished professional. She began her American career in human resources at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where she worked for over a decade. Later, she continued to rise through the corporate world, ultimately serving in senior HR leadership roles at ARCADIS, Vari-L Corporation, and Sirenza Microdevices. After retiring in 2007, Jacquie moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she built a life rooted in faith, service, and community.

Jacquie was known for her warmth, sharp intelligence, dry wit, and unmistakable English spirit. She lived a remarkable life shaped by courage, hard work, devotion to family, and steadfast faith. As a mother, she was fierce, devoted, and formative, raising her children to value education, integrity, independence, and strength.

Jacquie's family will remember her as a true survivor, a woman who overcame hardship with resilience, humor, and grit, qualities she proudly attributed to being British. She triumphed over adversity and hardship again and again through her industriousness, her keen mind, her sense of humor, and her resilient nature.
