Obituary

Beloved Father of Fathers and Friend to All, who touched others through his thoughts, words, actions and laughter. He was wise, devoted and loving, intelligent and fearless in all matters concerning family and life. Aidan Carragher was born in Cootehill, Co. Cavan Ireland and traveled to the United States (New York) in 1958. He was one of 11 children born to Helena and James Carragher: John, James, Peter (Kathy), Jerry (Deirdre), Hughie, Brendan, Malachy, Mary B (John), Meg, and Patrick. Aidan is survived by his wife Ann (Marrinan) who he met at an Irish Dance at City Center in 1962. They married on September 5, 1963 at Queen of Angels Church in Sunnyside, Queens. They lived together in Sunnyside early in their marriage then moved out to Whitestone for the best part of their lives. They were blessed with six children whom he adored, Ann Marie, Cathy (Domenic), Helena (Robert), Aidan, Christina (Matthew) and Brenda (James). Aidan was the proud owner of Aidan's Floor Covering where he trained his only son, Aidan, to be an integral part of the business. In 1975, Aidan owned his own Bar & Restaurant; Aidan's Parkway Inn in Whitestone. He most enjoyed his time in Hampton Bays; "God's Country" as he referred to it. It was where he was the happiest; cycling across the Ponquogue Bridge early in the morning, walking along the beach and then stopping for breakfast on his way home always accompanied by his children or grandchildren; Michael, Aidan, Isabel, Kaitlyn, Ava, Julia, Matias, Dalyn, Owen, Vaughn, Mia, Matthew, Olivia and Luca. Aidan is also survived by his brothers, Hughie and Jerry and his sister in law's Brigid, Monica, Nora, Margaret, Deirdre, Cathy as well as countless nephews and nieces. Irish Music was an important part of his life and he was often asked to sing a wee song ☘️, which he did with pride. Whether you met him for a moment or knew him for a lifetime, you were a better person for it – impacted by his charisma and positive outlook on life…he was so loved and will be forever missed. Aidan's funeral mass will be live streamed on Holy Trinity Church Facebook page.
